OSH Agency hosts lecture series for the public

As part of its continued public awareness initiative, the Occupational Safety and Health Authority/Agency (OSHA) will be hosting a series of lectures to the public, kicking off from Thursday July 8 at the City Hall Auditorium in Port-of-Spain, starting at 4:00pm.

This series will seek to sensitize a wide cross-section of the national community on their functions as Employers or Employees in respect of the obligations in the OSH Act of 2004 (as amended). The objectives of the lectures are to identify major requirements of the Act to stakeholders and to disseminate information on safety and health to those within the industrial establishments.

The lectures will be conducted by members of the OSH Inspectorate and the areas of focus include Duties under the OSH Act, Construction Issues, Role of Safety and Health Committees and Risk Assessment. All lectures are free and open to the public.

National Safety Awards 2010

On April 28, 2010, the Trinidad and Tobago Occupational Safety and Health (OSH) Authority celebrated the fourth annual National Safety Awards at the Hyatt Regency. The day was of special significance because it was also the International Labour Organization’s (ILO) World Day for Safety and Health at Work.

The Trinidad and Tobago OSH Authority shares the belief that health and life at work is a basic human right. These awards recognize the outstanding contributors and achievements of employees and organizations who promote workplace safety. We celebrate their achievements and applaud their efforts to bring a safer work environment for all.

National Safety Week 2010

The 2010 National Safety Week was celebrated from the Monday 26th to Friday 30th April 2010, at the CLR James Auditorium of the Cipriani College of Labour and Cooperative Studies, Valsayn. The theme for the National Safety Week was “Securing the Future: emerging risks and new patterns of prevention in a changing world of work.” The purpose of this week was to highlight the importance of safety in all facets of life and work in Trinidad and Tobago.

All organizations throughout Trinidad and Tobago were invited to show support by participating in different safety-related activities during the week. These activities promoted safety awareness as a priority. Activities included:
